Soccer Fan Reportedly Dies of Sleep Deprivation
The 2014 FIFA World Cup soccer matches have captured the attention and imaginations of fans from all over the world, but perhaps no fan was as intent on watching every match possible as a Chinese man who has reportedly died as a result of sleep deprivation as a result.
According to doctors at the People’s Hospital of Xiangcheng, a 25-year old man from the city of Suzhou was brought to them for treatment after his friends found him lying dead in front of the television after days spent watching one World Cup game after another. The last game that he watched was reportedly the Netherlands-Spain competition, which ended with the Netherlands winning 5 to 1. Doctors have not revealed more details of the cause of death other than to say it was caused by an excessive lack of sleep. No word on whether the exact cause was physical exhaustion, a heart attack, or something else. Continue reading
