The Truth About Latex

Rubber Tree Sap

Tree Sap Being Extracted From a Rubber Tree

If someone tells you their finished product is "100% natural" latex, you are being misled. You are going to find at most 95% natural latex in any latex mattress.

With so many online retailers touting their latex beds as organic and natural, it's not easy to decipher what these words mean. There is a large and varying scale of organic standards, and it is essential to scrutinize which standards apply. It gets even more confusing…some products that claim to use 100% natural latex do have SOME organic latex in their product…just not ALL of it, or ALL of the mattress components. As a consumer, you need to be vigilant. The fact is that latex with additives can technically still be called “natural latex”.

Is There Such A Thing as 100% Natural Latex

In a word, NO. If someone tells you their finished product is "100% natural" latex, you are being misled. That material does not exist. No manufacturer can simply whip rubber serum with air to produce natural foam rubber. The process does require tiny amounts of some additives. The important thing to remember when considering a product made of natural latex is purity - what is the percentage of pure natural latex vs fillers or synthetic material.

There are two ways to produce natural latex: 1) The Talalay Process 2) The Dunlop Process. You can read more about each of these manufacturing processes by Clicking Here. Both processes begin by mixing a large amount of rubber polymer (tree sap from a rubber tree) with a small amount of fillers or additives and pouring into a mold. It is very common to see advertisements for 100% Natural Latex because when the tree sap content is higher than 95% of the total product's ingredients the latex can be referred to as 100% Natural. You are going to find at most 95% natural latex in any latex mattress.

Our proprietary manufacturing blend of natural latex and fillers creates the best combination of contouring, comfort, pressure free support and durability. Our proprietary blend and tight manufacturing process eliminates inconsistencies and irregular densities found in other latex foams due to their inferior manufacturing processes.

Latex and Your Health

The elasticity, healthiness, and ability of Natural Latex to conform to your body, reducing pressure on your muscles and circulation is unsurpassed. The resulting benefits and luxurious comfort simply can’t be matched.

Natural latex is inherently hypoallergenic because it is a botanical product that is made from the sap of a rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis). So natural latex won’t cause allergies, especially because of the way it is processed, resulting in the end product being open celled. The allergen-causing proteins that some people are allergic to get washed out in the final step of producing the latex foam. Yet another health benefit is that a natural latex bed is antimicrobial and dust mite free. The botanical properties and chemistry of the latex don’t allow for the harboring of bacteria or other microbes, and dust mites cannot thrive within the natural latex foam. And because of the solid latex core, latex mattresses rarely, if ever, have problems with bed bugs as do other mattresses that have a lot of open space.

A latex bed is perfect for allergy sufferers, or anyone that prefers to sleep on a healthier sleep surface.
